Privacy policy
Wata is made by one developer, tasict, who has no server for it and never receives your drinks or your health data.
What Wata keeps, and where
Your drinks, stickers and settings are kept on your iPhone and Apple Watch. With Apple Health on, each drink is saved there as water, and Wata reads your water, weight, sex, age, workouts, heart rate and sleep schedule to work out a goal that fits you. Health data stays in Apple Health, on your devices and in your iCloud, under your control in the Health app.
There are no analytics in the app.
Stickers
Pairing writes a link with a random token (wata.ctsite.cc/t/…) to the sticker and notes its chip ID on your iPhone. The token says nothing about you. When a phone without Wata reads it, the website shows a page about Wata. The website has no analytics and the developer receives no record of the visit; it is served by GitHub Pages through Cloudflare, which keep the usual server logs.
Hot days and location
Only if you turn on Hot days, Wata asks for your approximate location and, once a day while it is open, asks Apple Weather for the day's temperature where you are. Your location isn't kept or sent anywhere else.
Ads in the free version
The free version shows at most one full-screen ad a day, through Google AdMob. Google may collect your device's advertising identifier and data about the ad, as described in the Google Privacy Policy. Wata never asks to track you across apps, sends no targeting with its requests, and never passes anything about your health, goal or drinks to Google. In the EEA and the UK, Google's consent form asks first, and Ad privacy choices in Settings › About Wata lets you change your answer. At most once a day, the free version also reads a small ad settings file from wata.ctsite.cc (whether ads are on, and how many days someone new goes without them); the request carries nothing that identifies you. With Wata Full, the ad SDK never starts.
Purchases
Wata Full is bought through the App Store. Apple handles the payment; Wata only learns from the App Store whether it is yours.
Export and deletion
Settings › Export as CSV gives you every drink as a CSV file, written only when you share it. Deleting Wata removes what it keeps on your devices; drinks already in Apple Health stay there until you delete them in the Health app.
